Radio/TV Industry & Economy - Radio/TV Govt unconvinced; seeks more details from Star News Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, July 17 THE troubles for Star News do not seem to end with the Government indicating its dissatisfaction over the responses given by the Media Content and Communication Services (MCCS) Pvt Ltd. Sources in the Information & Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry said that even after discussions with officials from Star India on Thursday, several questions were not answered completely. The Ministry has asked the company to get back with some more details in the next few days. The Government had shot off a series of questions on various issues such as its paid-up capital of the company, its shareholding pattern, board of directors, sources of funding and revenue projections. It had also sought details on companies such as Touch Telecontent India Pvt Ltd and Hughes Electronics Communications from whom MCCS outsourced infrastructure. In yet another development, a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking cancellation of the license of the Star group-owned FM radio channel Radio City has been filed in the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court. It has sought a stay on the operations of the radio channel Radio City. The PIL alleged that the Star group had floated shell companies to take licenses and handle operations for the radio channel Radio City. When contacted, Star India's spokesperson acknowledged the PIL and said that the company's legal department was looking into the matter.
