SANYO Electric Co Ltd anticipates significant growth in the market for digital cinema equipment in India, and plans to exploit this segment with a launch of digital projectors later this year.

According to Mr Kunihiro Okajima, Senior Staff, Sanyo Electric's projector business unit, though the digital cinema is at a nascent stage in India, the entertainment industry is steadily going digital. Sanyo sees major potential in digital cinema, which is on a growth path in the US, China and Japan. With 48,000 cinemas distributed across India, a major market for movies produced in the US, and with modern facilities in the metros, there is bound to be significant demand, he said.

The entertainment industry has taken to the concept with digital technology extensively used by modern studios in processing. This trend is bound to extend to distribution and exhibition. Digital technology can make these processes cheaper and efficient. Sanyo will be in a position to cater to this growing segment, he said at a press conference here today.

Sanyo inaugurated an audiovisual concept centre by Office 2000, the exclusive master distributor for Sanyo products. The audiovisual concept centre will be a demonstration facility for the products on offer for the various market segments.

The company has a strong focus on this product and expects to launch a technologically updated version every six months. Maintenance will not be a problem because Sanyo will make available spare parts for 8 years even after a product is pulled out of production, he said.

Mr A.S. Azharuddin, Director-Marketing, Office 2000, said that the company offers a unique facility of a touch panel control system to integrate all the electrical equipment into a single control panel. It offers the US-made AMX control panel that can control the electrical and electronic equipment in a conference hall for easy operation.
