Pharmaceuticals Corporate - Outsourcing `UK keen on pharma research outsourcing' Our Bureau
KOLKATA, July 8 BRITISH companies are seriously looking into the possibility of increasing pharmaceuticals research outsourcing from India, Dr Andrew Hall, the British Deputy High Commissioner to eastern India, told Business Line. "Business outsourcing from India in the area of information technology enabled services is already a growing reality for UK companies,'' Dr Hall added. He said that discussions were on for a possible visit of the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, along with a business delegation to the UK. A British business delegation is coming to India specifically to explore the possibility of biotech and pharmaceutical research outsourcing in September, which will visit the research hubs in Hyderabad and Bangalore. The move assumes significance in the context of India establishing an intellectual property rights (IPR) regime by January 1, 2005 under the WTO ambit. Already two British companies are active in India in the field of pharmaceutical and bio-tech research. But the business outsourcing and contract research has not yet become a trend
