Openings in IT sector

IN this second edition of Business Line's new column on jobs on offer in the IT industry, we look at openings at Wipro Tech, Adobe, Parametric Technologies, Global Software, L&T Infotech, Maples ESM Technologies, Winphoria Networks, Sonata Software, DSL Software, Digital GlobalSoft and Intel India.

Wipro is on the lookout for Project Managers, Project Leaders and Engineers with 2-10 years; experience in software development and testing. It is also on the lookout for quality assurance managers, test architects, senior QA analysts, mainframe and QA analysts. It promises projects with the likes of Nokia, Lucent, Alcatel, Motorola and Nortel.

Wipro recruited 3,848 employees in the last quarter, excluding recruitments in Spectramind, its ITES subsidiary. As to the openings currently available, a spokesperson for Wipro would only say, "We have multiple openings for all our project positions while our leadership positions are role-specific." The company refuses to comment on the salaries it offers but reveals, "While the availability of skills in the IT arena in general has generally improved for companies who are still recruiting, the niche skills and talents are always on demand. The demand for such skills is global and these skills are difficult to attract. Our compensation packages are flexible to attract such talent." The company has grown from 9,619 software employees in March 2002 to 13,485 in March 2003.

The Chennai centre of Maples ESM Tech needs applications programmer and analyst programmer and team leaders for its IBM Mainframe Application consulting division. Its Mainframe systems support division needs Systems Programmers, database administrators and mainframe trainers for job locations in India and in Japan and the UK.

Global Software (India) wants Java specialists - with 4-12 years' hands-on experience - for its operations in Chennai and the UK.

L&T Infotech wants Oracle project leaders and managers, Oracle application technical support, Oracle HR, manufacturing, DBA and financials consultants.

Parametric Technologies' R&D centre in Pune wants professionals in product data management, software quality assurance and technical writers, technical support engineers. It is also on the lookout for folks with experience in design and development in MCAD product development, user interface development and manufacturing applications development.

Winphoria Networks, a Motorola company, requires professionals with 2-6 years' experience in the areas of software development - with experience in C/C++ development - quality assurance/testing, and professionals with 3-5 years experience in field support and with at least 5 years' experience in technical writing and documentation. It says that the technologies you could get work on include, CDMA, GSM, GPRS, UMTS, IP and VoIP.

Sonata Software in Bangalore is on the lookout for professionals in Oracle Apps Technology (18 months' experience for developers and 36 months' for senior developers), Oracle Core technologies (2-6 years' experience) Oracle Functional Consultants (at least a year's implementation experience), Oracle certified DBAs.

DSL Software, a joint venture between HCL Technologies and Deutsche Bank, requires professionals for its BPO initiative. Its process transition group requires an associate vice-president with 10 plus years in a banking domain. Its operations group requires a vice-president and an associate vice-president with 10 plus years' experience in managing large teams. The operations group also requires assistant managers and team leaders (with 4-10 years' experience) and process associates with 1-3 years' experience who would be responsible for executing operations.

Adobe wants software engineers with 2 year's experience with C/C++ programming skills, software quality engineers, SAP administrators and Internet applications administrators. Digital GlobalSoft Ltd, with which Hewlett-Packard's India software operations is to merge, wants program managers, project managers and consultants with 3-5 years' experience in SAP, senior software engineers with 3 plus years' experience in WebMethods, consultants with 3 years' experience in Cisco IPCC and experience in Web channels and multi-site operations, project managers and integration consultants with 3-10 years' experience in Siebel and management and engineering trainees "preferably" from "IITs, RECs and IIMs".

Intel wants functional consultants to drive eBiz solutions for business requirements. The position requires 3-5 years' experience in full cycle SAP implementation. It also wants technical consultants for requirement analysis, design, development, validation and support of the assigned eBiz application or project. Security analysts are also on the wanted list.
