Environment HP move to curb e-waste Our Bureau
COIMBATORE, June 8 HEWLETT-Packard (HP) India has launched a programme to address the issue of e-waste disposal. Mr Raj Kumar Rishi, Country Commercial Sales Manager, told Business Line: "The drive for a cleaner environment had always been a priority. We had launched it in three cities - New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore - some time back. It is being extended across 42 cities in the country now. However, it would cover only original HP cartridges." Stating that the recycling programme was a leading product take-back plan, Mr Riashi said that this service was being offered free of charge in most of the countries where laserjet and inkjet supplies were sold, including the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific countries. "We have identified a set of large customers in India (numbering over 750), who are considered our most valued customers, for they source their supplies regularly only from us. "We intend to approach them. If they evince interest, they will have to register with us and fix a time to enable us to take back the empty or half-empty cartridges. They will be provided with an empty bin for dumping used cartridges. The bin will be emptied every fortnight or once a month, depending on the customer's request."
