Venu Srinivasan among Stars of Asia of Business Week

Our Bureau

BANGALORE, June 4

MR Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director of TVS Motor Company, has been featured as one of Business Week's Stars of Asia which features 25 top achievers in the continent.

He is the only Indian entrepreneur who has been acknowledged for this special distinction. Interestingly, the only other automaker representative who has made it to this years' list is the Toyota Motor Corporation President, Mr Fujio Cho.

Reacting to the news, Mr Srinivasan said, "It is a great tribute to our diligent and dedicated work force at TVS Motor Company who have worked hard even under trying circumstances to keep the company in the forefront of our business."

Business Week, in its tribute has acknowledged that Mr Srinivasan is a saga of persistence.

"For more than a decade, Mr Srinivasan worked hard to revive his company, which manufactured motorcycles and scooters in a joint venture with Suzuki Motor Corporation after a strike nearly disrupted it. By 2001, TVS Motor Company had become strong enough to split with Suzuki on favourable terms and start manufacturing on its own," the publication has noted.

TVS Motor Company had, in 2002, bagged the Deming prize, a coveted international award for quality management. Since the time it decided to go on its own in the two-wheeler venture, it has been a steady upward climb for the company. While the TVS Victor has grown from strength to strength in the executive bike segment, TVS Motor is already working furiously on a slew of other products that will be launched during the course of this year.
