CHENNAI, June 4

HYUNDAI Motor India sold 11,200 cars in May, a 38.6 per cent increase over the 8,078 cars sold in May 2002, according to a company release.

The sales last month were aided by a strong export demand with the company exporting 2,300 units.

Santro sales accounted for 8,573 units (including exports of 1,699 units), a 40 per cent increase, while the Accent accounted for 2,551 units (including exports of 601 units), a 39 per cent growth.

The company had received overwhelming response from customers in India and distributors in Europe for the Santro Xing, which was launched on May 22.
