THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Circle of State Bank of India (SBI) entered into a memorandum of understanding with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam under which the bank proposed to extend housing loans under a special package to the University staff (both teaching and non-teaching) with immediate effect.

An SBI spokesman said that the MoU was signed by Mr Sankunny, General Manager (South Kerala), SBI, and Dr Jose James, Registrar of the University.

The bank has also offered to extend liberal finance to the University staff for personal needs and purchase of car/two-wheelers, etc., under the `Teacher Plus' scheme.

The University has over 2,200 employees working in over 45 institutions and campuses spread over five districts, the spokesman said.
