VTPS generators trip

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: All the six generators of the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (VTPS) and 15 outgoing feeders tripped on Monday following the breakdown of a 220 KV current transformer. This has caused black out at the power station and also led to tripping of Gas Turbo Power Station (GTPS) at Vijjeswaram. All the units at GTPS were restored within three hours by the Generation Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APGenco).

At VTPS, according to an APGenco press release, start-up operations were commenced immediately and three generating units were restored by evening and the remaining units were expected to be operational shortly. The failed current transformer was expected to be brought back into service by Tuesday.
