Star, SCV stand-off ends
Sriram Srinivasan
CHENNAI, April 28
EXACTLY a month after the Star group switched off its bouquet of channels from the Sun group-controlled Sumangali Cable Vision (SCV) platform in Chennai, the two groups seemed to have worked out a deal, with Star agreeing to distribute its channels through SCV, starting Monday.
SCV's General Manager (Operations), Mr Vittal Sampath Kumar, while confirming that a deal between the two groups has indeed taken place, refused to disclose more information.
With this development, the Star channels would be aired through SCV not only in Chennai but in other cities and towns in Tamil Nadu where the network is present, sources said.
The Star bouquet of channels was in an on-and-off mode in places such as Coimbatore and Madurai from January this year until Star announced on March 28 that it was going off SCV owing to differences with the latter over declarations and payment.
Star sources in Chennai said that the "issues were sorted out" between the Sun network (in the city) and the top management of Star in Mumbai in a conference call, and hence were unaware of the issues which were discussed.
Cable operators affiliated to SCV said that their subscribers have started receiving Star Plus and that other Star channels would follow suit.
