MUMBAI, April 13

IN a further effort to calm customer fears over its financial health, ICICI Bank said an assessment of transactions conducted at its branches and ATMs in Gujarat and across the country on Sunday, had revealed that ``at any given point in time, there were not more than five customers at any branch.''

A statement from the Executive Director, Ms Chanda Kocchar, further states that depositors had come back on Sunday to deposit money and were even opening new accounts. ``It is business as usual at ICICI Bank,'' the statement said.

``The mischievous rumours about the bank's financial position, floated in the last couple of days, have failed to unsettle most of our customers,'' it said. Emphasising the bank's commitment to its customers, it thanks its customers and the central bank for their ``faith and confidence in ICICI Bank.''

According to a spokesperson, operations at the bank ``had returned to normal."
