HYDERABAD, April 12

ONE of the directors of the scam-hit Prudential Bank, the Hyderabad-based urban cooperative bank, Mr Krishna Kumar, died in judicial custody on Saturday morning after complaining of chest pain.

According to police officials, Mr Kumar, 63, was initially provided first-aid at Chanchalguda jail here, where he was lodged, and was later shifted to Osmania Government Hospital, where he died.

The Prudential Bank director was arrested on April 7 and later remanded to judicial custody on charges of financial irregularities by the sleuths of Crime Investigation Department (CID).

The CID police had also arrested the bank's Chairman, Mr B. Muralidhar, and three other directors on April 5 on similar charges while six other directors of the crisis-ridden bank were still at large.

Apart from alerting all airports in the country, the CID police had confiscated the passports of absconding directors.
