Tirupur knitwear exporters cheer Exim Policy

Our Bureau

COIMBATORE, March 31

THE annual Export Import Policy for 2003-04 which focuses widening the supportive schemes for export clusters has cheered the Tirupur knitwear industry.

The specific thrust imparted for infrastructure development in the export clusters and market development assistance through encouragement to locating common showroom or warehousing in the overseas market as mentioned in the Exim Policy is seen by the Tirupur knitwear industry as `positive' developments.

Welcoming the Exim Policy pronouncements announced by the Commerce Minister, the Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) expressed satisfaction over the continuation of the export incentive schemes such as DEPB, EPCG and advance licence.

The TEA President, Mr A. Sakthivel, said the procedural simplification or rationalisation find mention in the policy would bring down the transaction cost and time for the exporters.

``It is incredible that the Commerce Minister has added seven more export clusters to the list to the existing three clusters which would be brought under the ambit of the Ministry for priority funding.''
