Awards & Honours Tata Steel MD bags workers' union award Our Bureau
KOLKATA, March 14 MR B. Muthuraman, Managing Director of Tata Steel, has received the 19th Michael John Gold Medal, an award constituted by the Tata Workers Union in memory of its past President, Mr Michael John. Dr J.J. Irani, Director, Tata Sons and a former Managing Director of Tata Steel, handed over the medal to Mr Muthuraman, according to a release issued here by Tata Steel. Speaking on the occasion of the 19th Michael John Memorial Lecture in Jamshedpur recently, Mr Muthuraman stressed upon the concept of economic value addition and evolution of a new work culture which would seek to strike a synergy between the workers and the management. He sought to underscore the imperatives for "equitable distribution of power between the workers and the management'. Mr Muthuraman said the biggest challenge facing Tata Steel was high employee cost. In this context, he complimented the leadership of the Tata Workers Union which, he said, had worked with the management for years to contain employees' cost.
