NEW DELHI, March 13

IN an effort to enhance security at the airports, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has decided that from July 1, 2003, ground-handling activities will be handled only by Air India (AI), Indian Airlines (IA) and the Airports Authority of India.

Sources said that AAI will be setting up a new arm to look after the ground handling operations. The CCS decision means that from July 1 no private players such as Cambata or any other foreign airlines will be allowed to do ground handling work at Indian airports.
