Outlook Marketing - Promotions & Offers Kinetic earmarks Rs 4 cr for promos To push special Boss variant Our Bureau
KOLKATA, Feb. 19 KINETIC Engineering Ltd has earmarked Rs 4 crore for promos and advertisements that are aimed at selling 5,000 units of a special variant of the `Boss' motorcycle within the next two months. Speaking at a news conference here on Wednesday to announce the launch of a "cricket-inspired variant" of the `Boss' motorcycle, Mr Ajay Kapila, Senior Vice-President (Sales & Marketing) of Kinetic Engineering Ltd, said the launch of the new variant of the Boss has been timed during the World Cup Cricket season and was dedicated to Kapil Dev, "the only Indian captain to have brought home the World Cup so far." Mr Kapila said Kinetic Engineering has already launched three motorcycle models since it made a foray into this segment of two-wheelers. It has also entered into a technical collaboration with Hyosung of Korea for the GF series of motorcycles. Between now and March 2004, some five new motorcycle models would be launched by the company. These include an 115cc motorcycle and one sports version besides a city version of a 165cc motorcycle. Mr Kapila declined to divulge turnover targets for the year ending March 31, 2003, but said that, in unit terms, sales during the current fiscal would grow by around 10 per cent over last year. In 2001-02, the Kinetic group's turnover stood at Rs 1,100 crore. Last year, the group exported 8,000 units of various products, including scooters, mopeds, etc., to the US and Europe. According to him, the market for motorcycles was expected to grow at 20-25 per cent in the years ahead on account of the rising demand for it in small towns and rural areas where "a rugged product such as the motorcycle is preferred." Kinetic Engineering has over 1,000 sales and service outlets across the country at present. The company hopes to add 250-300 new sales and service outlets every year, Mr Kapila said.
