Mr Abdul Rafeeq poses with the tri-wheel truck in Kochi
KOCHI, Feb. 15 SETTING new trends in cargo transportation, the Chavakkad-based Rajah Motors has developed new tri-wheel and four-wheel trucks. The vehicles known by the name `Tiger' and `Kangaroo' respectively will hit the road within three months, after getting clearance from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Pune, Mr A. Abdul Rafeeq, Managing Director, Rajah Motors, told a press conference here. The vehicles were manufactured in the company's Chavakkad plant in collaboration with Shamshong Jolan of China. Both the vehicles are designed for the Indian roads. The tri-wheel truck, modelled as an auto-rickshaw, is priced at Rs 2.5 lakh. The four-wheel truck will cost Rs 3.25 lakh, he said. Though both the vehicles have got the licence to carry one tonne of cargo, it has the capacity to transport more than two tonnes, which was proved in the pre-launch test. The vehicles are fitted with 16-inch tyres generally used for trucks. Engines are fitted in the front portion of the vehicles. Regarding the marketing strategy, Mr Rafeeq said that the company is planning to concentrate in rural areas of the State where cargo transportation is considered to be a difficult task. After the initial launch in Kerala, the vehicles will be introduced in Tamil Nadu, he added.
