Issues affecting agriculture

This is with reference to the editorial "MSP conundrum" (Business Line, February 15). The editorial has pointed out the urgent need to address the various issues affecting agriculture. Also, it is necessary to have a comprehensive farm policy. As for consolidation of land-holdings, it is essential to protect the interest of the small and marginal farmers.

Why not think of something like a modified form of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation for other farm products too?

Removal of all restrictions in the movement of farm products, incentives and subsidies at input level to increase productivity and production, enforcement of protection through crop insurance schemes, and so on. are required.
