NSIC offers advisory service for pump cluster entrepreneurs

G. Gurumurthy

COIMBATORE, Jan. 30

NATIONAL Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) which is moving its industry-supportive services towards cluster-based industries has come out with a mentoring/advisory service aimed at new entrepreneurs.

The corporation has launched its first mentoring service at the Coimbatore specific electric motor and pump cluster for which the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia) will be the nodal agency.

Coimbatore cluster is the lone industrial cluster identified in the South to extend this service by the NSIC. The mentoring service will utilise the services of the senior professionals/industrialists having vast exposure in the field and are past their active career, to offer advise to the new entrants promoting industries on the nuances of the business.

The NSIC will bear 50 per cent of the expenditure incurred for the mentoring service while the balance would be borne by the industry and the Corporation's commitment in sharing the cost would however be limited to a maximum of Rs 10,000 per month incurred towards the mentoring services.

Lauching the mentoring/advisory service programme at a function got up by the Codissia here on Wednesday, the Chairman and Managing Director of the NSIC, Mr Rajiv Bhatnagar said the first few years of the start of a business would be crucial and bothersome for the new entrant for whom the mentoring service would serve as the must needed `hand-hold'.

The NSIC had planned to introduce the mentoring service in select clusters one each in northern, eastern, western and north-eastern regions shortly. It has also proposed to draw a pool of experts who would be empanelled and their list would be prepared by the respective nodal agencies in each industrial clusters.

An apex committee of the NSIC would monitor the operation of the mentoring/advisory services.
