Palm oil meet to discuss price outlook

MUMBAI, Jan. 29

THE Malaysian Derivative Exchange's annual palm and lauric oils conference and exhibition to discuss price outlook for 2003-04 is scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur during March 17-19.

The programme includes presentation by experts on a series of topics such as outlook for major vegetable oil producing and importing countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, China, India) for the current year, technical analysis of edible oil price behaviour and developments in oleochemicals market.

Mr Dorab Mistry, London-based Director of Godrej International Ltd, will speak on the impact of India's drought on palm oil price outlook in 2003, while Mr Nagraj Meda of Foretell Capital Trust will present an effective perspective to forecast edible oil prices.

Other topics include world demand, supply and price outlook for oils and fats by Mr Thomas Mielke, Editor-in-Chief of the Hamburg-based Oil World, and a presentation by Dr James Fry of LMC International, London, on exchange rate shifts, cost competitiveness and supply responses in the oils and meals markets and their implications for the 2003-04 price outlook.

Major edible oil producers, commercial banks funding vegetable oil trade, service providers and other will exhibit their products and services at the exhibition, according to the organisers. More information may be obtained from www.mdex.com.my.
