Cascading wonders

THE magnificent waterfalls surrounded by lush greenery are an ideal vacation spot for nature lovers. The silvery streams falling down the steep slopes leaves you marvelling at the awesome power of Nature. The following are some of the popular waterfalls in Andhra Pradesh.

Ethipothala Waterfalls: Ethipothala Waterfalls are located at a distance of 160 km from Hyderabad. The cascading waterfalls are formed by the water flowing down from Chandravanka Mountains from a height of about 70 ft. This waterfall is a combination of three streams namely Chandravanka Vagu, Nakkala Vagu and Tummala Vagu.

Nagarjuna Sagar DamNagarjuna Konda,Anupu, Srisailam,Ranganadha Sagara Mata and Dattatreya Temples are the sight-seeing spots around the Ethipothala Falls.

Tourists can stay at the Andhra Pradesh Tourism's Ethipothala guesthouse for a day's stay. Other places to stay are Andhra Pradesh Tourism's Sagar Vihar Guesthouse, Motel Nagarjuna at Nagarjuna Sagar. Motel Nagarjuna at Nagarjuna Sagar.

There are regular bus services from Hyderabad, Warangal and Vijayawada to Nagarjuna Sagar.

Kailasanatha Kona Waterfalls: It is a natural perennial waterfall in the valley of Nagari Hills in Chittoor district. The water here originates from a crack in a sheet rock, and the water is crystal clear having substantial mineral value. The unique feature of this waterfall is that one can reach the foot of the waterfall by car. It also has a small temple of Shiva and Parvati. Tirupati being the most famous pilgrim centre is well connected by air, rail and road. Tourists can take busses from Tirupati. Accommodation is available in the hotels at Tirupati. November to January is the best season to visit the place.

Pochera Waterfalls: These waterfalls are located at a distance of 50 km from Adilabad. The gorgeous waterfalls are wide and deep so it is advisable to be careful as one approaches it. November-February is the ideal season to visit Pochera.

Kuntala Waterfalls: Kuntala is a very small village, 11-km from Nirmal in Adilabad district with a population of around 145 people. It is situated on banks of river Kadam, a tributary of the Godavari River. This waterfall, is known as the Kuntala waterfalls, is the highest in Andhra Pradesh. They are located at a distance of 22 km from Adilabad. They fall from a height of 45 meters. It is surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful hills and forests and is an absolute feast for the eyes. Tourists can take buses from Nirmal. Small budgeted hotels are available fro accommodation at Nirmal. October-February is the best season to visit Kuntala.

Talakona Waterfalls: Talakona waterfalls are located at a distance of 45 km from Cuddapah district near Tirupati. These waterfalls are famous for their medicinal effects. November-January is the best season to visit.
