Awards & Honours Ayurvedic excellence award for Taj group Our Bureau
KOCHI, Jan. 7 IN recognition of its quality, purity, authenticity and the ayurvedic care rendered to the tourists, the State Government has given the `Green Leaf' award to the full-fledged ayurvedic centres attached to the four hotels of the Taj group in Kerala. The Tamara Spa at the Taj Malabar, Cochin, the ayurveda centres at the Taj Residency, Calicut, the Sowparnika at the Taj Garden Retreat at Varkala and the ayurveda resort at the Kumarakom Taj retreat were the recipients of the award. Green Leaf is the highest honour bestowed on ayurvedic centres that fulfill all the essential and optional conditions prescribed by the Tourism Department, sources in the Taj group said. The essential conditions include qualified and sufficient ayurvedic physicians and personnel to attend on both male and female tourists separately, high quality medicines and health programmes, and clean and hygienic equipment. The optional conditions specify that the centre should have high standard architectural and interior features and superior extra facilities such as steam bath rooms, meditation/yoga centres, herbal gardens, etc. The centres that fulfill only the essential conditions are awarded the `Olive Leaf'. A committee comprising the Director of Kerala Tourism as Convenor, the Director of Indian Systems of Medicine, the Kayachikitsa Professor of Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram, and a representative each from the Ayurveda College, Kottakkal and Indian Association of Tour Operators as members issues the relevant certificate. The Tamara Spa offers authentic rejuvenation, therapeutic and beauty treatment sessions depending on the requirement of the guests in a contemporary setting. Designed by Abacus of Singapore, its speciality is the landscaping and lighting, which are on par with international standards. The spa has a full-time doctor and two female and two male masseurs. The spa includes a full-fledged gymnasium, yoga and aerobics room, beauty parlour and salon with modern facilities such as jacuzzi. The Ayurveda Centre at the Taj Garden Retreat, Kumarakom and Sowparnika at the Taj Garden Retreat, Varkala offer quality ayurvedic care.
