Tribunal waives tariff filing for BSNL, MTNL

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Jan. 6

THE Telecom Dispute Settlement Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has exempted both Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) from filing their cellular tariffs with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) before offering them to subscribers.

Both the companies had approached the tribunal over an earlier TRAI order, making it mandatory for them to get prior approval for their tariff structure, even as the remaining cellular operators were exempted from doing so.

TDSAT, in its ruling on Monday, also noted that BSNL can continue with its 325 Plan for cellular services which includes free incoming calls

The latest ruling by the tribunal now enables both BSNL and MTNL to revise their tariffs without submitting them to the authority.
