THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Dec. 29 WITH the New Year just a couple of days away, partygoers in Thiruvananthapuram are getting ready to celebrate. While much of the festivities will be conducted in the privacy of homes, private clubs, hotels and resorts in the city are also gearing up for New Year's eve celebrations. "We will definitely go to one of the hotels to celebrate New Year and round off the evening with a visit to the beach," said a young software professional. The city's major hotels on their part are readying to meet the challenge. At the Muthoot Plaza, Egypt is the flavour of the season, according to Mr Nagarajan Udupa, General Manager. Visual representations of Egypt, pillars with Egyptian paintings and other Egyptian motifs will grace the hotel's premises. It is understood that delicacies from West Asia will feature on the multi-cuisine menu for the evening. The entertainment will, however, be an eclectic mix with the focus on show stealers. Among those slated to perform are Hindi pop singer, Piyush Soni, and a group of acrobats performing with fire, Mr Udupa said. Adding the popular touch will be performances of hit Malayalam and Tamil film numbers. A highlight of the celebration at the Muthoot Plaza is a separate corner for children. This venue for the children's party will be decorated in keeping with the Alice in Wonderland theme. The young guests will be taken care of by special staff and will also have access to goodies such as cotton candy and popcorn. Similarly, the South Park hotel has lined up a list of exciting activities to usher in the New Year, a spokesperson said. The stress in on "uninterrupted fun". A live band will be playing at the hotel, with games and contests adding to the fun. Adding to the excitement will be a whole range of giveaways. The several beach resorts that are located near the city are also likely to organise special events to ring in the New Year. Public celebrations are also likely to be organised at the Kovalam beach on the outskirts of the city.
