HYDERBAD: Work on the doubling of track on the Pullampet-Gooty section of South Central Railway which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Mr A.B. Vajpayee, has been commissioned at the project site.

The section forms a part of the Gooty-Renigunta railway line on the Mumbai-Chennai rail corridor passing through Anantapur and Cuddapah districts.

One of the oldest rail routes on the railway network, the project line runs mostly parallel to Palakonda and Seshachalam hills. The total length of the Gooty-Renigunta railway line is 280 km, of which 87.83 km length has double line. The balance work has been sanctioned in two phases, for Pullampet-Gooty (150.74 km) and for Balapalle-Pullampet (41 km).

The Pullampet-Gooty track doubling project is estimated to cost Rs 305 crore. The project is meant to clear bottlenecks in the rail network and strengthen the Golden Quadrilateral providing connectivity to ports, according to an SCR release.
