Events CII meet to focus on networking Our Bureau
HYDERABAD, Dec. 26 THE Ninth Partnership Summit 2003, to be held at Hyderabad early next month, will focus on the challenges of globalisation while addressing issues relating to networking in businesses. The summit, being hosted at Hyderabad for the second time after 2001, will be co-sponsored by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the State Government. It will have over 40 sessions including one on `WTO The road to Mexico', which is to be addressed by the WTO Secretary-General, Mr Supachai Panitchpakdi. With the theme of `Networking Businesses: Linking Nations', the mega flagship event of CII for the year 2003 will carry forward the concept of setting global standards rather than national frontiers. This will focus on ways to get there by building seamless networks between Governments, companies, trading blocks, academia and technologies. To be inaugurated by the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr L.K. Advani, the summit will host about 800 participants including over 250 from abroad representing 22 countries. Several Central Ministers, including the Finance Minister, Mr Jaswant Singh, are expected to take part in the summit. Mr Singh's participation in such a summit ahead of the Budget is being seen as a platform to exchange concerns of the industry. The summit will identify political, strategic and economic issues that drive businesses and Governments in the short and medium terms. Participants could strategise, network and diagnose key issues in order to redraw the boundaries of doing business in the new millennium and add fresh perspectives to the corporate planning process. And while doing so, they could move from financial budgeting to strategic and interactive planning including from forecasting to scenario building, according to Mr Tarun Das, Secretary-General, CII. The Chairman of CII's Andhra Pradesh Chapter, Mr B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, said that the need of the hour for countries and businesses was to learn from each other's strengths and mistakes and to work in partnership to deal with common challenges. There has been increased interdependence among nations and businesses through trade alliances and global mergers. The Major Industries Minister, Mr K. Vidhyadher Rao, said that the summit will enable investors to assess first-hand the initiatives taken by the State Government to attract investments from overseas as well as from within the country and also experience what it can offer by providing an ideal interface.
