Our Bureau

KAKINADA: Seshadri Express, a new train from Kakinada to Tirupati was flagged off on Tuedsay by the Union Minister of State for Railways, Mr Bandaru Dattatreya. The train has been introduced in response to pleas by local legislators.

The Minister said more facilities could be created at the Kakinada station and a new line linking Kakinada port to the deep water port was also under active consideration of the Ministry.

Mr Dattatreya said the Railway Ministry would spend Rs 1.6 crore on creating facilities at Rajahmundry for the benefit of Godavari pushkaram pilgrims.

He said with the introduction of the new train with 23 coaches more than 1,000 additional berths would be available for the Tirupati-bound pilgrims.

Mr Dattatreya said two more rail over bridges will be sanctioned in Kakinada if proposals were forwarded by the State Government to facilitate free flow of traffic.
