HYDERABAD, Dec. 23

THE 46th All India Congress of Obstetrics & Gynaecology is scheduled to be held at Bangalore for six days from January 5, under the auspices of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological Societies of India to take "academic excellence towards fulfilling social commitments", according to Dr Kamini A. Rao, organising chairperson.

She told presspersons here on Monday that efforts were on to focus on reproductive care and child health and a multi-disciplinary approach to promote them was being pursued. The main themes of the conference were community obstetrics, adolescent health and advances in infertility. A forum on "population stabilisation" would be held to create awareness among people of the economics of family planning.

Other issues such as contraception in the 21st century, menopause and medico-legal problems would be discussed. Workshops on management of obstetric complications would be held.

A cycle rally from Bangalore to Pune with the theme, "Destination - safe motherhood", was also being planned to highlight the importance of anaemia eradication and the steps to be taken to prevent them.

Dr Kamini Rao said that 52 workshops had been conducted all over the country so far and about 12,000 doctors sensitised about the measures to tackle the problems.
