Events `Storage networking, billion-dollar market' Our Bureau
BANGALORE, Dec. 23 STORAGE networking could be the next big opportunity for the Indian IT sector, said the Karnataka IT Minister, Mr D.B. Inamdar, here on Monday. Announcing the Storage Networking Summit, a four-day international storage networking event which is being held here from January 20, 2003, Mr Inamdar said storage is one of the fastest growing areas in Indian IT sector and the country is expected to provide a billion-dollar market for storage networking over the next two years. Most of the major companies developing and marketing storage technologies such as Cisco Systems, IBM, Network Appliances and Veritas are already making major inroads into the Indian market. ``In this context, storage networking can be seen as the next big opportunity for the IT industry. The conference is happening at just the right time,'' Mr Inamdar said. Mr G.S. Ravi, Conference Director, said the summit which is expected to attract several of the big names in storage networking, would have tutorials, presentation of papers and channel development. The domestic storage market at present is estimated to be around $500 million and is expected to reach $1.3 billion in the next two years, Mr Ravi said.
