Multimedia PC-cum-TV unveiled

HYDERABAD, Dec. 20

HCL Infosystems Ltd has launched its new Beanstalk PC here incorporating all the latest features of a TV and a computer.

The new PC has other attractions too such as a 1500-watt music system with the option to upgrade it up to 20,000 watts, a VCD player, and a Gaming station with 3D sound.

The PC with a flat screen of 17 inches or 19 inches is the smallest of its kind in the world and serves a variety of purposes with user-friendly technology to suit the needs of housewives, students, businessmen and others, according to Mr Rajiv Thapar, Marketing Manager of HCL. It is a multi-media Internet ready system and by merely pressing a button, one can access any site or TV channel, he told mediapersons. Facility to take pictures including those of films, store them and send them through e-mail, curricula-based education software for CBSE and a multi-lingual office suite form part of the package offer. With Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Microsoft Encarta Encyclopaedia, Intel Pentium 4 1.8 GHz, 128 MB RAM, the cost varies from Rs 45,000 to Rs 55,000.

Mr Thapar said HCL had entered into a tie-up with ICICI Bank to enable customers buy the PC at zero interest and on monthly instalments of Rs 1,200 spread over 42 months. The company is conducting a promotional campaign for two days from December 21 and would release the PCs into the market soon after getting feedback from customers.
