MANGALORE, Dec. 19

The first phase of Manasa, an amusement and water park, would be inaugurated on January 1 by the Union Minister for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation, Mr Ananth Kumar.

The amusement park, situated at Pilikula near here, is being promoted by G.M. Amusement & Leisure Park Ltd. The park has been developed on 15 acres of land leased out to the company by the Karnataka Government through the Pilikula Nisarga Dhama Society here. It has been approved by the Karnataka Ministry of Tourism and financed by HUDCO.

The park is to form one of the components of a 450-acre `integrated science park' which will eventually include a wildlife safari, a botanical garden, a heritage village, a science centre, an Ayurveda and naturopathy centre in addition to a golf course, an aquarium and boating facilities.

The amusement park is to be developed in three phases. The first phase would involve an investment of Rs 10 crore. The Rs 9-crore second phase will include `amusement rides' while the third phase will include a `mono-rail' said to be the first of its kind in the country.
