Ashok Leyland launches new range of heavy vehicles

HYDERABAD, Dec.18

ASHOK Leyland, the flagship commercial vehicle manufacturer of the Hinduja group, has announced the launch of its new range of heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) powered by its `H' (Heno) series engine.

The launch of this new upgraded range with a host of new features here on Wednesday is to be followed in Tamil Nadu and other States in the south and gradually across the country, according to Mr V.M. Hombili, Regional Manger (South), Ashok Leyland.

Addressing a press conference Mr Hombili said the company is unveiling two 4x2 haulage models, each with distinct customer advantages. While the 1612 model is a 16 tonne truck and the first of the H series, the other is Comet 1510, useful for light haulage applications.

The new fuel-efficient H series engines, so far offered in Ashok Leyland buses, would now power the H series trucks, which have been custom developed by the company. Gradually, it plans to launch a turbo charged naturally aspirated engine as well.

The H series consists of 4 and 6 cylinder engines with naturally aspirated, turbo-charged and turbo inter-cooled variants with power output ranging from 80 to 210 ps. The series is capable of upgradation to Euro 3 stage. While this will be a new addition, current models in the 16 tonne range will continue. Further, once there is demand for CNG powered vehicles and the infrastructure for CNG dispensation is ready, the company will offer them.

Alongside this, the company also launched Comet 1510, which is positioned as an ideal vehicle for the 9 tonne payload applications and available at a competitive acquisition cost.

Mr Hombili said that Andhra Pradesh along with all the southern States was an important and sensitive market for Ashok Leyland where the company has a market share of over 50 per cent.

The company also announced the launch of Vishvas, a complete annual maintenance contract that covers both scheduled preventive maintenance as well as en route breakdown services for vehicles through the company's authorised workshops. This was backed by an ideal technology monitoring system, he said.
