KOLKATA, Dec. 16
THE Hutch brand has finally come to Kolkata. Hutchison Telecom East Ltd, which has its cellular operations in Kolkata, has announced the launch of the Hutch brand here.
The brand has been launched in Delhi, Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat, where Hutchison affiliates have cellular operations.
Mr Asim Ghosh, Managing Director of Hutchison Telecom India and Managing Director of Hutchison Telecom East Ltd, told a news conference that the company was hopeful of capitalising on the strength of the Hutch brand and augmenting its share of the Kolkata cellular market.
Hitherto, the company's cellular services were offered under the Command brandname. A new product, called Hutch Share, was also launched on the occasion. The new product saves up to 50 per cent of the cost of outgoing calls between two Hutch numbers.
Mr Ghosh said that the Hutch brand would be unfolded as a unified national brand across all Hutchision-affiliated cellular circles. He, however, declined to divulge as to how much money the company has earmarked for brand promotion in the next 12 months.
Hutch made its global debut in May 2002 and has been conceptualised and developed by the same team, which created the Orange brand. The company has ruled out plans to have a brand ambassador.
Hutchison presently accounts for about 20 per cent of the national cellular customer base. According to Mr Ghosh, the national cellular market was growing and, over the years, cellular operators would find the scope for national pricing.
``The market is not quite ready for this but yes, in the future, there will be scope for national pricing,'' he said.
