Aventis CropScience gets new name

MUMBAI, Dec.13

AVENTIS CropScience India Ltd will now be known as Bayer CropScience India Ltd following the acquisition of the former's global cropscience business by the Bayer group, Germany.

In a notification to the stock exchanges, Aventis CropScience said that the company would approve the change of name at an extraordinary general meeting of the shareholders of the company is scheduled on January 11, 2003.

Aventis CropScience SA (now called Bayer CropScience SA) and Aventis CropScience GmbH (now called Bayer CropScience GmbH) together hold 67.08 per cent of the paid-up share capital of Aventis CropScience India Ltd and are also wholly owned subsidiaries of Bayer CropScience Holding SA of France.

Early this year, Bayer group had acquired the cropscience business of Aventis group for 7.25 billion euros and consequently the control of company changed. In India, the two companies are estimated to have a combined market share of about 24 per cent.
