Qwiky's now in Sri Lanka

Harsha Subramaniam

CHENNAI, Dec. 11

QWIKY'S coffee will now be available in Sri Lanka. Chimayo Chains Pvt Ltd, which owns the coffee chain, said that the company has tied up with Success Enterprises, a garment manufacturer with experience in retailing, to start three outlets in Colombo.

In an interview to Business Line, Mr Sashi Chimala, Chief Executive Officer, Chimayo Chains, said the company was also planning a new retail format to service office complexes and colleges. "We will offer a completely different product at a different price," he said.

The company plans to set up a retail network to market a variety of gourmet coffee powder and beans under the Qwiky's brand. It is also scouting for alternative channels of distribution such as supermarkets and departmentstores. "There is a demand for gourmet coffee and our network will be on the lines of a Leo coffee," he said.

The company has been experimenting with different retail formats since its inception. Mr Chimala pointed out that its shop-in-shop format has been the most successful and that it has managed to grow in size and in business. Mr Chimala said that though the business has been capital-intensive, it has managed to break even at the company level. It has 22 outlets across the country.

Eyes BPO biz

CHIMAYO Chains has set up a wholly-owned subsidiary, Chimayo BPO Pvt Ltd, which marks the company's foray into business process outsourcing. The company will offer its services in managing food and beverage processes for restaurants and retail chains. "We are helping other people set up their own brands," says Mr Chimala. The company is also open to the idea of working with a coffee brand.
