HYDERABAD, Dec. 11 THE Tamilnadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd, popularly known as `Poompuhar', is expecting to post a turnover of Rs 15.5 crore during the current fiscal as against Rs 14 crore last year. The corporation had already grossed a turnover of over Rs 10 crore so far this year despite a 15 per cent reduction in the prices of its products. The THDC Chairman and Managing Director, Mr J. T. Acharyulu, told newspersons here on Wednesday that in the past one year, the corporation had succeeded in cutting down the cost of production and also reducing the profit margin from 20 to 15 per cent. This had enabled THDC reduce prices for the benefit of its customers. He said that THDC was now planning to open a showroom at Hyderabad. Currently, there were 18 Poompuhar showrooms located in Tamil Nadu, New Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Pondicherry. In Hyderabad, THDC was holding an 11-day annual exhibition of its handicrafts here. The exhibition sales are expected to be in the range of Rs 17 lakh.
