Rubber scales 5-month high

Our Correspondent

KOTTAYAM, Dec. 11

RUBBER prices scaled a five-month high with prices touching Rs 41 a kg for RSS 4 on Wednesday.

All the other grades also firmed up to reach levels higher than June this year on reports that there were no arrivals in the market. The inflow from the village marketing centres also narrowed to the minimum.

North Indian buying firmed up along with the buying of non-tyre groups. The tyre sector also started procuring the essential quota even violating the procurement rules laid down by them. It was also evident that the ruling prices crossed the limits of the weakly purchasing rates fixed by them.

The short supply situation in the market would have improved if the growers had released sufficient quantity of rubber. With meagre availability at marketing centres, growers expected the prices touch Rs 50 a kg

Sheet rubber RSS 4 and unraded rubber made further gains with prices ruling at Rs 41 and Rs 37.50 from Rs 40.50 and Rs 36.50 respectively. Latex 60 per cent, which maintained a low profile so far, moved up to Rs 30.50 from Rs 29.50. Block rubber reached Rs 38 from Rs 37.50 and RSS 5 to Rs 39.50 from Rs 39.
