Karnataka: More allocation for education mooted

Our Bureau

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Government would send a proposal to the Centre to enhance the allocation for education by at least five times the present level of six to seven per cent.

The Minister for Education, Dr G. Parameshwar, said the present allocation by the Centre for education was inadequate to improve the educational standards. He said the enhanced allocation would support the State's efforts in mitigating the basic problems faced by teachers.

The Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Prof B. K. Chandrashekar, said that 94 per cent of the fund provided by the Government was utilised to meet the salaries of teachers. Thus the States were facing funds crunch to boost educational standards. The Ministers made these remarks at a convention of educational accomplishments here on Sunday.
