Floriculture Garden City to host rose show Our Bureau
BANGALORE, Dec. 6 ROSE Society of Karnataka in collaboration with the State Horticulture Department is organising a three-day Karnataka Rose Show and Nursery Fair in Bangalore from December 13. Rose shows are an annual event in Bangalore and are normally clubbed with the Republic Day flower shows. However, this exclusive rose show is expected to provide an opportunity to rose growers and nurserymen to display the outstanding material grown by them and help improve their production standards through exchange of new ideas from other growers, says a press release. The associations such as the Nurserymen Co-operative Society, Bangalore, South India Floriculture Association, National Horticulture Board, APEDA, Indian Nurserymen Association, University of Agriculture Sciences and the Indian Institute of Horticulture Research are supporting the event. Bangalore has emerged as an important centre for cultivation and export of quality roses. Several export-oriented cut flower companies are operating from Bangalore and surrounding areas. Export earnings from roses exceed Rs 30 crore, of which Bangalore accounts for more than Rs 20 crore, says a Horticulture Department press release. The event is expected to attract over a lakh visitors, it says.
