Mr Anand G. Mahindra, Vice-President, CII, with Mr Chengal Reddy, President, Federation of Andhra Pradesh Farmers' Association, Andhra Pradesh, at the launch of the Indian Farmers and Industry Alliance (IFIA) in the Capital on Thursday.
NEW DELHI, Dec. 5 THE Government has not been able to make farming an attractive profession in India because policymakers have continuously neglected the sector, according to the Indian Farmers and Industry Alliance (IFIA). IFIA, a body promoted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is targeting to reverse this neglect and promote mutually rewarding partnerships, according to the two founders of the organisation, Mr Chengal Reddy, President of Andhra Pradesh Farmers' Federation, and Mr Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the CII National Council for Agriculture. The Minister of State for Textiles, Mr Basavangouda Patil, who attended the launching function of the IFIA, welcomed the alliance saying that this unique partnership between farmers and businesses should take Indian agriculture to a new direction. Modern marketing, in particular, would make a big difference in agricultural prosperity. A special technology mission has been set up to promote productivity and quality in cotton production, and for this mission to succeed, a partnership between farmers and industrialists was essential, he said.
