CSL to expand training services

KOCHI, Dec. 5

COCHIN Shipyard Ltd (CSL) has charted out plans for expansion of training facilities in its Marine Engineering Training Institute.

To start with, the institute will soon commence course in advance fire fighting apart from the pre-sea training now being imparted. An exclusive complex on an ideal location along the waterfront, necessary mock-up unit and other fire fighting equipment will be set up.

According to CSL officials, as many as 24 trainees will be taken up for the week-long course commencing mid December.

Meanwhile, as many as 86 marine engineering trainees of the 14th batch of the institute passed out on Thursday. Addressing the students, Mr Amitava Banerjee, Principal Officer of the Southern District Mercantile Marine Department, called upon them to maintain the tradition of Indian maritime culture and to keep the flag flying even during adverse and difficult situations.

The training scheme is in accordance with the IMO standards and the training scheme is accredited with ISO-9001 quality standards, according to a release issued here.
