Escorts ties up with Sentec for injection systems

NEW DELHI, Dec. 3

ESCORTS Auto Components Ltd (EACL) on Tuesday announced that it has signed a technical collaboration agreement with Sentec E&E Company Ltd of Taiwan (Sentec) to manufacture secondary air injection systems (SAI) for two-wheelers.

Under the agreement, Sentec will provide comprehensive support in setting up production and testing facilities for SAI and related R&D, and provide applications support to customers of EACL. The agreement also provides for introduction of other products such as catalytic converters, carbon canisters and small fuel injection systems for two-wheelers.

Mr Anil Nanda, Chairman, EACL said, "Emission control in two-wheelers is a hot issue and EACL is happy to be part of the solution rather than the problem. We are manufacturing these devices in anticipation of the 2004-05 emission norms which are much stricter than the ones at present".

The 2004-05 emission norms will have a "deterioration factor" and stricter production tolerance norms wherein no separate allowance will be permitted between "type approval" and the "conformity of production". This is likely to persuade two-wheeler manufacturers making both two-stroke and four-stroke engines to put in exhaust after-treatment comprising SAI systems coupled with catalytic converters/hot tubes.

Sentec is a manufacturer of emission control products such as catalytic converters, SAI and carbon canisters. EACL currently manufactures two-wheeler carburettors and oil pumps. It also markets catalytic converters manufactured by Sentec.
