NEW DELHI, Dec. 3

HAMDARD Laboratories has bagged the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) Brand Equity Award for its `Rooh Afza' brand and Mr Analjit Singh, Chairman of Max India Ltd, was given the `Distinguished Entrepreneurship Award' while Associated Cement Companies Ltd (ACC) bagged the `Good Corporate Citizen Award' for the year 2002.

The Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Mr K.C. Pant, presented the awards at the 97th annual general meeting of PHDCCI here.

The other winners included Wipro Ltd, which was given the `Ethics Is Good Business Award', and Ms Vinita Jain, Chairperson, Bio-Veda Technologies Ltd, who was presented the `Outstanding Businesswoman Award'.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Pant said that the greatest challenge facing the country is to achieve a growth rate of over eight per cent of GDP per annum and ensure that it is able to generate employment at a pace that can absorb the growing labour force.

"We need to consolidate and deepen the process of reforms in sectors in which they have already been initiated," he said.
