`Soft touch' to khadi

Our Bureau

BANGALORE: The Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) has come out with a plan to give a soft touch to the coarse material of khadi by blending it with fibres like tensil and modal which have similar characteristics and have bio-degradable qualities.

Named `Khadisoft', the blended fabric is eco-friendly and will assume a trendy look to adapt to fashion garments. KVIB's aim to come out with the fabric was to replace about 70 per cent of the cotton khadi stored in various KVIB institutions in the State. At present, khadi worth Rs 45 crore is stacked in godowns.
