The Hindu Business Line : SAB India changes name

SOUTH African Breweries India Ltd (SAB) has announced the change of its name to SABMiller India Ltd with immediate effect. The change follows SAB's change of name worldwide in the wake of its acquisition of the Miller Brewing Co, earlier this year. Accordingly, the company had applied for a change in its name, which has since been approved.

The company began its Indian operations in October 2000 when it acquired Narang Breweries in Uttar Pradesh. Thereafter, it acquired Mysore Breweries Ltd (MBL) in Bangalore, Pals Distilleries Ltd in Aurangabad and has taken a majority stake in Rochees Breweries in Rajasthan. Today, the company has a combined capacity of over 9 million cases per annum in India. Currently, SAB India brews and markets an array of significant brands including `Three Lions', `Castle Lager'; and `Knock Out' in most markets in India.

SABMiller Plc, the second largest brewer in the world, was formed in July 2002 after South African Breweries Plc (SAB) acquired the Miller Brewing Company of US for a total consideration of $5.6 billion.
