Help at hand for women

Vanitha Sahayavani (VSV), a helpline initiative for women in distress, was set up by the Bangalore City Police in January 1999. Any person can dial the telephone number 1091 and launch complaints of harassment.

Volunteers and women police personnel work from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on this helpline to provide the following services: telephone counselling, immediate rescue of women in crises through trained volunteers and police, short stay home, family counselling and rehabilitation.
