Industry Associations FICCI signs energy pact with Canadian body Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, Nov. 12 A MEMORANDUM of understanding (MoU) was singed between FICCI and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) on Industrial Energy Efficiency during the interactive meeting on India-Canada Business Opportunities organised by FICCI, here today. The FICCI President, Mr R.S. Lodha, and Mr Irwin Itzkoviteh, Assistant Deputy Minister, Natural Resources of Canada, signed the MoU. While FICCI's involvement will be under the auspices of the Indian Industry Programme for Energy Conservation (IIPEC), NRCan's involvement will be under the auspices of the Canadian Industry Programme for Energy Conservation (CIPEC). As part of the understanding, both FICCI and NRCan will collaborate to foster energy efficiency actions in the industrial sectors of India and Canada by sharing information and progress from their respective programmes, including annual reports and energy data, visits and study tours between respective programmes and the promotion and innovation and information exchange to advance energy efficiency methodologies in industry. In his inaugural address at the session, Mr Herb Dhaliwal, Minister of Natural Resources of Canada, said that this MoU on the sharing of critical data and information concerning industrial energy efficiency will facilitate the exchange of knowledge on best practices between the two nations. On the issue of bilateral trade between India and Canada, the Minister said that the objective of the Canadian Government is to double the bilateral trade between the two nations by 2003.
