Letters HAL tie-up
This is with reference to the article "HAL, Israeli co in marketing tie-up" (Business Line, November 3). It is heartening to know that Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd will soon tie up with Israel's aviation industry for marketing the Advanced Light Helicopter. It is indeed creditable that India has taken the bold step to design and produce this aircraft indigenously which, besides satisfying the needs of the Indian Air Force, also meets international standards. HAL has come a long way since it embarked on the production of the infamous subsonic fighter aircraft, HF 24. It is good that India is establishing closer links with Israel, a country that has achieved a high level of technological sophistication. India can also learn much from that country in non-Defence areas, such as water management and drip irrigation. Israel builds and supplies state-of-the-art desalination plants, and India can benefit much from Israel's expertise in the field. Kangayam R. Rangaswamy
