HYDERABAD, Nov. 11

THE Chairman of Microsoft Corporation, Mr Bill Gates, is scheduled to launch the second phase of the children's immunisation programme in six districts of Andhra Pradesh on November 14.

About five lakh children are to be immunised against a number of diseases including Hepatitis-B in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Warangal and Adilabad districts.

The programme, which was taken up last year under the auspices of the Gates Foundation, Programme for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH) and the State Government in Chittoor, Cuddapah, Anantapur, Kurnool, Guntur and Mahabubnagar districts, has since made rapid strides.

Briefing presspersons on the highlights of the Children's Vaccine Program (CVP), Dr Rajkumar, Project Manager, said that Andhra Pradesh was the first in the country to have introduced Hepatitis-B vaccination as part of the immunisation programme.

It was also sharing the cost of the programme with a view to taking it over later. Mr Gates, will visit the Microsoft India Development Centre (MIDC) on November 14. During his three-hour maiden visit to the Centre, he will interact with the developers, who have contributed in conceiving and developing strategically important products for the global market.

He would also review the details of the products that were developed recently at the MIDC and hold discussions with the respective product unit teams.
