Shaw Wallace to increase capacity — Launches `Vladivar' vodka

MUMBAI, Nov. 8

THE breweries division of Shaw Wallace is in an expansion mode with plans to invest around Rs 100 crore. According to Mr H.N. Nanani, Chief Operating Officer (India Operations), Jumbo World Holding India Ltd, the company will set up four breweries in the next few months.

"Breweries will be set up in Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. Of the four, one will start production next month,'' he said. Currently, Shaw Wallace has about 10 breweries and 14 tie-ups for its production requirements. The company is to invest Rs 100 crore for the set up.

Mr Nanani also confirmed that the company is in talks with a couple of international companies including South African Breweries (SAB) to be roped in as a strategic partner for the breweries business in India. "Talks are on. These things take time to be wrapped up,'' he said.

Shaw Wallace has decided not to pursue the acquisition of Rajasthan Breweries. Mr Nanani said the decision was taken looking at the legal complications involved in Rajasthan Breweries.

On the spirits front, Shaw Wallace will be focussing on developing its presence in the premium segment. Says Mr Raj Halve, Vice-President, Marketing, Shaw Wallace Distilleries Ltd, "We are looking at introducing brands in the premium segment in all the four categories including wines, ready-to-drink and liqueur.''

The company today launched the vodka brand `Vladivar' in the premium segment under its association with Kyndal Spirits. Vladivar is priced at Rs 390 a litre and the company plans to garner 10-15 per cent market share in the first year of launch.

Speaking at the launch, Ms Komal C. Wazir, Executive Director, Shaw Wallace, said that the company will explore the possibility of making India, a production base for Vladivar in the near future. "We will also look at introducing other Kyndal brands in India very soon,'' she said. The company has earmarked Rs 5 crore for marketing expenses for Vladivar.
